Attendance Requirements

        The University has clear requirements for students’ attendance. Before teaching, the school will issue each course’s course process management record book to the teachers. Teachers will record and track the students' attendance, and confirm that the attendance is roll call or sign in on the online platform (paper material, students can ask the teacher about their attendance). Students should participate in all activities stipulated in the teaching plan and arranged by the University. The University implements attendance for students in class, internship, experiment, practical training, graduation design (thesis), etc. Those who do not participate in teaching activities without permission, or take leave overdue and do not to return without justifiable reasons shall be treated with absenteeism. Teachers can formulate the attendance method of the course according to the characteristics of the course and the number of students, and evaluate the students' usual performance according to the proportion of the scores. Depending on the course, the teacher may determine the proportion of student attendance in the overall composition of students' grades. For example, some courses require teamwork to complete an experiment, students' attendance will affect the progress of the team, thus teachers can set a high proportion of attendance in the whole score. Each time a student is absent from class, the teacher will record in the curriculum management record and deduct the corresponding grades scores (students who are absent without reason will be deducted 10 points, and those who are late or leave early will be deducted 5 points). If the grade falls below 60 points, the instructor will cancel the student’s examination qualification, fill in the name list of students who have been canceled with the examination qualification and submit it to the Academic Affairs Office. The instructor will also announce the list of disqualified students publicly in class. At the end of the exam, the student's transcript will show that the course is “ineligible” and the student will have to retake the course. Students can retake twice for each course, and the retakes will be registered according to the actual score. Grades of the retaken courses are not capped, and no substitute courses are allowed.

If students can explain their absence from courses, they may go through the relevant leave procedures and submit a leave form, the usual scores of the corresponding course will not be deducted, they should do this before they fall below 60 and risk not attending their exam. Students are not allowed to leave without justifiable reasons. For those who need to leave, they must follow the relevant leave procedures and obtain approval level by level:

Stage 1 Submit a written report, state the reasons for the leave;

Stage 2 According to different circumstances, submit relevant certificates: for personal leave, present personal leave certificate; for sick leave, student should have the certificate from medical clinic or hospital; for public leave, student should have the certificate from the University. (Personal leave refers to leave taken for personal reasons. Public leave refers to when the University or the school arranges for students or teachers to participate in activities that make them unable to study in class.)

The approval authority for the student leave is:

1. Shall be approved for half a day by the instructor for less than half a day;

2. For more than half a day and less than three days, should approved by the relevant Dean of School;

3. For more than three days to less than seven days, should be commented with approval agreement by the Dean of School and report to the Student Affairs Office for approval;

4. For more than seven days and less than one third of the semester, should be commented with approval agreement by the Dean of School and Student Affairs Office and then submit to the Vice President for approval.

Those who ask for leave for more than 6 weeks of the current semester must apply for suspension (the total semester length is 16 teaching weeks). More details about suspension can be found in Chapter 7 in 5.9 Implementation Rules for Student Status Management of Jiangxi University of Technology.
